ýapp Celebrates International Education Week

International Education Week (IEW) is celebrated nationwide every November, during which the Office of International Education partners with other departments, student organizations, and individuals who are interested in hosting or co-sponsoring activities and events. IEW is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences.

This year marks RMC’s 21st International Education Week, with events from Nov. 18-22 following the theme “Food and Folklore.”

A full calendar of this year’s IEW events is below.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 18

Culturesgiving

6 p.m.-8 p.m., Dalton Family Room

Culturesgiving is a potluck event hosted by Multicultural Programming Board every year for students and staff to bring foods that are significant to their culture. It’s a time to eat some good food and to learn about how holidays are celebrated around the world and amongst different cultures!

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 19

Rice Folktales – Tasty and Traditional

Noon-1 p.m., Haley Hall Room 112

Students can enjoy making and eating rice balls while listening to retellings of traditional rice-ball-centered folk tales.

The RMC Interfaith Council welcomes you to this fun and delicious event during International Education Week. Stop by the various tables to sample foods from different cultures/religions and learn about traditions that may be new to you. Enter the drawing to win prize baskets: you’ll get raffle tickets at every table where you stop to learn and sample the food.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 20

Cookie Decorating

For International Education Week, we’ll be exploring the theme of “Food and Folklore” through cookies! Decorate sugar cookies inspired by global treats, and creatively explore the lore behind international delicacies. (Cookies and decoration materials will be provided. All food items will be labeled with allergen information.)
